Favorite DIY Cleaning Recipes

A naturally clean home

Welcome! As discussed in my last post, creating a clean home can come inexpensively and with just a few ingredients. Today, I will share my very favorite DIY recipes for laundry detergent, fabric softener, an all-purpose cleaner, and hand soap.

Laundry Detergent:
1/2 cup liquid castile soap (I like this one!)
1 1/2 cup washing soda
1 1/2 cup borax (or you can substitute it for more washing soda)
3-4 cup baking soda
2 cup vinegar
20 drops of essential oil of choice
2 T colloidal silver, optional: for added antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties (I like this one!)

In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together. Add the liquid castile soap and stir until well blended. Then add the vinegar a 1/2 cup at a time. Stir well after each addition. Then add your essential oil and colloidal silver. Keep stirring until the mixture starts to form a heavy powder. Keep it sealed and use 1/3 cup per load. This detergent is HE safe because it is low sudsing.

dryer ballsFabric Softener:

This one is easy! Balls of wool can be used as a fabric softener to remove static and decrease drying time (more $ savings!). Check out these from Mountain Meadow Wool! To add scent to your laundry use your favorite essential oils. Mountain Meadow Wool offers a couple of blends that I formulated. Just add a drop or two to the dryer balls and refresh as needed! No chemicals necessary!

All-Purpose Cleaner:
2 cup vinegar (white distilled is fine)
2 cup water
Essential oils of choice (Here are some great antibacterial options)
1 T colloidal silver, optional but adds additional antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties

(I like this one!)

Vinegar is a great disinfectant. I mix a spray bottle with half vinegar, half water, and my favorite essential oils for cleaning and use it as an all purpose cleaner and deodorizer. For added bacteria fighting properties, add colloidal silver. You can use this spray everywhere! In the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, and on furniture or carpet to deodorize.

Simple Foaming Hand Soap:

Ditch the chemicals in store-bought soap and opt for an easy DIY version!

In a foaming hand soap bottle, fill halfway with liquid castile soap. Add 15 drops of essential oils from my antibacterial list. Then top it off with water. Shake well and use!

Try these–they work great and last a long time! Foaming hand soap bottles

I also like this liquid castile soap. Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Liquid Soap – Baby Unscented 32oz.

Congratulations for taking steps to a cleaner home!
