A Simple DIY Bath Oil to Promote Sleep

My mom’s birthday was yesterday. I like to make homemade gifts, but sometimes I feel like I end up gifting the same thing. So as I was trying to think about what I’ve given her in the past and what I could make that would be different, I came up with this fabulous bath oil recipe. And since I love to pass along the good stuff, I decided to post it for you today.

A little background… my mom works SUPER hard! She started and owns Mountain Meadow Wool. She and my brother innovatively take the local ranchers wool and do all the cleaning and processing to create end products from yarn to clothing. All with traceability back to the ranch where it came from! Just last week, she received a phone call from the White House! They said they would like them to be the company to represent Wyoming at their Made in America show. How do you turn that down?! So she is preparing to fly to Washington D.C. this weekend!

I knew something to relax and help her sleep would be perfect! I’ve given her bath salts and bath packs but never a bath oil so that is how this recipe was born! And I’m calling it Counting Sheep Bath Oil in tribute of my mom!

I love you Mom!

About the Ingredients

I chose almond or apricot oil because they are gentle oils, great for the skin, and not too heavy.

Hydrosols are floral waters. When essential oils are distilled, the floral water is the by product. Pure floral waters contain similar properties of the essential oil but are not as concentrated. They make a great addition to this bath oil! Rose hydrosol is fantastic for the skin and smells heavenly! Lavender hydrosol is relaxing, reduces stress, and also smells great!

Epsom salt is high in magnesium. Magnesium helps the muscles of the body relax and also promotes deep sleep.

The Desensua Sleep Well essential oil blend is a blend I developed for them. It is designed to relax, reduce stress, clear the mind, and encourage restful sleep.

Finally, the liquid lecithin is mostly an emulsifier, but it also has moisturizing properties.

Now that you know all the goodness, here is the recipe for you to enjoy!!

Counting Sheep Bath Oil A DIY recipe for creating a relaxing bath oil

2 oz almond or apricot oil

1 oz rose hydrosol

1 oz lavender hydrosol

¼ cup epsom salt

50-60 drops Sleep Well essential oil blend

½ tsp liquid lecithin

Mix all ingredients together in a bottle and shake to blend. It will settle out a little so before using, just give a little shake. Pour 1-2 T into your bath and enjoy the relaxing spa-like soak!
